Deficit clothing is a concept revolving around unpredictability, not just a product of fashion but a choice and conscious effort against uniformity. Hence the name, drawing attention to the shortfalls and what is absent, as it’s what’s missing that counts.
The designer and founder Rohan Bassi often refers to Deficit and the range as a natural extension of his aversive attitude towards conforming and fitting in, shown by the level of unique detail on each garment.
Ever since man left the cave, people's desire has always been to be seen as fitting in.. This is the major flaw in society. Standing out is what people should strive for, to become leaders not followers, inventors not users or the numerous other roles that society depend on!
So it's no wonder that people don't reach their true goals when society is inherently opposed to this very attribute. Deficit embraces differences over regularity, inspirations over unimaginative and unity over being a unit. We as a country neglect creativity and individualism, with an educational system that portrays arts as unimportant. When in reality our lives are consumed with artistic innovation and ideas by minds that chose not to surrender.
The concepts of Deficit are built on these thoughts.
